Brandon passed by the gymnasium, and couldn’t help but feel a pang of pain and longing as he heard the raucous yells coming from inside. Peering through the half-open door, he saw the members of the basketball team cheering and laughing, congratulating one of their own on a score. “Sigh…” Basketball had been one of Brandon's favorite sports, whether to play or watch as a child… but as fate would have it, the genetic lottery had decidedly not favoured him in the athleticism department. A short stature, lack of stamina, and a seeming inability to gain muscle no matter how much he tried, and Brandon knew he was just not cut out to compete with the jocks or alpha types who were sure to be on the team. He let out another deep sigh, turned around, and started to walk away.

“Why the long face?” Brandon heard a voice behind him and jumped, hearing a giggle as he turned around. There was a girl right behind him, hands held behind her back as she smiled at his startlement. Was she an upperclassman of his? Brandon didn’t recall ever seeing the girl before… but the friendly smile on her face made him feel at ease, for some reason. “Nothing much… and it doesn’t matter, anyway.” “You want to join them, don’t you?” Brandon’s eyes widened and he opened his mouth to deny her statement, but then he stopped. “Yeah… but I know that's not going to happen.” “You don’t know for sure!” The girl turned around and began to walk away, but not before saying, "Come to the gymnasium before school tomorrow - I’ll be waiting here."

As Brandon entered the gymnasium the next day the girl was already there, her long brown hair now tied up into a ponytail. She tossed a basketball at Brandon, who fumbled and nearly dropped it. "I've been thinking of creating a basketball club, something that's not competitive like the main team, but will give anyone who's interested a chance - say, someone like you! I could see the longing in your eyes yesterday, as you watched them practice… there’s no use hiding it from me.” “Um…” Brandon blushed, surprised that he had been found out so easily, and the girl smiled. “So! Treat this as a tryout of sorts - but all you need to demonstrate to me is your passion! Should be easy, right? God I sound so cheesy… but anyway!” The girl spread out her arms, bending her legs slightly and holding her arms out to the side as she settled into a defensive stance. “Come on, give it a shot!” Brandon took a deep breath, dribbling the ball before charging forward, trying to swerve past the girl and take his shot, but- “Ack!” His foot slipped on the slick gymnasium floor and Brandon fell on his behind, the basketball flying from his hands and into the girl’s. “Are you okay?” She ran towards him, eyes clouded with concern. “I-I’m fine…” Brandon picked himself up off the ground, rubbing at his sore behind - unbeknownst to him, it had begun to grow out, plumping up slightly as it gained a curvier appearance. His shoes had also become a pair of sneakers more suited for exercise - and the fact that they hugged his now-smaller feet snugly certainly helped. “It’s okay - I want to continue! But thank you, um…” “Cassandra,” the girl finished for him, “But most people call me Cassie.”

Brandon accepted the basketball, and got ready to try again. He dribbled the ball and charged, this time managing to just slip by Cassie’s defences by the skin of his teeth. “Hah!” Brandon jumped up and threw the ball towards the hoop, but his arm strength was just not enough, and the ball fell short of the hoop entirely. “Ugh…” Brandon’s shoulders slumped in disappointment, but Cassie seemed nowhere near as dejected as he was. “That was a good shot!” She beamed, clapping him over the shoulder as she encouraged him to give it another try. Already Brandon could feel his muscles tensing up and lamented his unathletic physique, but in fact he was slowly becoming stronger, arms and legs now more toned and muscular than before, though they still remained slender and lithe in appearance. The two continued playing and Brandon slowly lost himself in the rhythm of the game, his worries and concerns fading away, and at the same time his hair started to grow out to reach shoulder-length, gathered into twintails held away from his face. Dyed red streaks also started to appear, standing out bright and bold amongst the light shade of dirty blonde overtaking Brandon’s hair. A look of determination spread over his face, narrowed blue eyes becoming green as they stared intently at the girl in front of him, waiting for any opening he could take advantage of.

Finally, Brandon saw his chance. He dashed forward, feet pounding against the hard floor as he pushed himself harder, faster, trying his absolute best to just go, go, go. His heart pounded wildly, and Brandon felt a heat fill his chest - was this the desire to prove himself, to realise this passion that he had possessed for so many years? All the while, he failed to notice mass gathering on his chest, as fat pooled to form into two breasts, pressing up against the thin material of Brandon’s shirt - but that issue was quickly remedied as the shirt became a pink sports bra that hugged his new assets tightly. This in turn exposed his navel, which became more muscular and toned as his waist slimmed to create an hourglass physique. Brandon’s sweatpants were replaced by dolphin shorts, thighs gaining mass as he blew past Cassie, rushing towards the hoop, leaping up high, high, throwing the ball- and seeing it slip into the hoop with a soft whoosh. Brandon landed back on the ground, knees bent slightly to absorb the impact, though as the slight shock travelled through his body it conveniently caused his private parts to invert, a female’s slit replacing the male’s anatomy in between his legs. Chest heaving slightly, Brandon closed her eyes, feeling a sense of elation, accomplishment. She had finally done it… but now that the heat of the moment had passed slightly, she felt a bit weird… Brandon opened her eyes, sighting the two new weights on her chest, the shorts that should have shown a bulge that was clearly no longer there… “AHHH!!” A girl’s high-pitched shriek was heard, splitting the morning’s silence.

“I’m sorry…” Cassie said with her head in her arms, voice filled with remorse. “I… just couldn’t bear seeing you like that… you seemed so sad, so alone… I couldn’t help myself. I’m sorry.” “It’s alright…” Brandon sat beside the other girl, patting her on the back awkwardly to offer whatever comfort she could. “I know you didn’t mean me any harm by doing that - and it’s not like I can really complain either. After all, you helped me fulfil my wish, even if I had to…” Brandon’s face reddened as she looked downwards. “Thank you.” The two remained silent for a moment, broken only by Cassie’s hesitant tone. “Y-you passed the selection, you know… so if you want to join the club, you can.” “Have you found anyone else who’s willing to join yet?” “No… you were the first person I approached.” “Ahah!” Brandon laughed out loud, causing the other girl to smile too, albeit just a little. “I figured as much… but sure, count me in.” “Well, that’s that then…” Cassie stood up, reaching out a hand to Brandon and helping pull her up. “We’ve got to get to class soon… just follow me.”

A week or so later… “Hey!” Cassie called out, watching the twin-tailed girl in front of her turn around, a smile breaking across her face. “Morning.” The two girls fell into step with each other, walking up the gentle slope that led to their school. It had been a relatively easy matter, with just a little of her magic, to convince everyone around them that Brandon had been a girl all along, and that she was in the same class as Cassie; what had been harder, though, was helping the newly-turned girl adjust to her new life. Luckily, Brianna had adapted surprisingly well to the ins and outs of living as a female - though of course, she still had quite a lot of catching up to do. “You free for practice afterschool today?” Brianna asked, her eyes practically sparkling with excitement. Seeing the happy smile on her friend’s face, Cassie couldn’t help but smile back. A life changed for the better, previously unattainable happiness brought to a boy’s life… and who knew? Maybe in the future there would be another person she could help, someone whose life she could change for the better, both figuratively and literally… “Of course.”
