Thought I'd make something cute and wholesome to kick of Pride Month. It's also National Egg Day in the states so… I just couldn't help myself :3

“Oof! This is heavier than I remember!” Cassie grunted as she lifted an 11 pound bag of rice up from off the shelf and dropped into her cart. “Now let’s see…” She reached her hand into her open purse which she had placed in the child seat along with some fruits and veggies and grabbed her phone. She scrolled through her digital list of groceries, marking off the rice she had just picked up and looked for what made the most sense for her to go and find next. But before she could get far in updating her list she felt someone bump into her back, nearly knocking her phone from her fingers.
“Woah! Sorry about that ma’am!” The guy turned around to apologize to Cassie as she in turn turned to give him a light scolding but as she saw who it was her face turned first pale followed by a deep blush of embarrassment. “Cassie? Is that you?”
“I- Ugh… I-” She stuttered, retreating her face behind her hands as she peered at the guy between her fingers. The guy who bumped into her was a friend from college named Smith, and the other guy who he had been distracted by was a mutual friend of theirs named Jordan.
Now Cassie didn’t usually have any reason to be flustered by seeing them while out and about in their small university town but this time was different. A couple of months ago she was better known as Calleb but after messing about in the nearby woods and falling into a pond he found himself now a short, cute, young adult. And though his sudden gender swap came as a shock to everyone he and everyone else around him managed just fine with the changes. Calleb swapped to the name Cassie and used she/her pronouns to prevent confusing anyone or drawing any unwanted attention her way but she dressed bland, always making a point to her close friends that despite her change in gender that she was still just one of the ‘bros’. And she truly meant that at the time but as days turned to weeks and weeks turned to months she found herself not minding her new body as much and even envying some of the other girls on campus with how they dressed and portrayed themselves. Eventually spring break came around and without having to see her friends everyday she decided to treat herself and experiment a bit. She dyed her hair a vibrant pink with purple tips and built up a wardrobe of the cutest clothes she could find and had been rocking it ever since… at least for while she was on break.
“You look so different!” Smith said, jaw agape as he took in what Cassie was wearing. “I almost didn’t recognize you!”
“Yeah!” Jordan joined in, “You never dress like this!”
“Yeah… I ugh… I mean… It was… I guess…” Cassie felt like she was about to fall over as the room began spinning, the sound of other store goers became overwhelming, and the fluorescent lights glared in her eyes.
Smith, realizing that Cassie was getting flustered by their questions and was obviously uncomfortable, did the only thing he knew needed to happen. He laid his hands down firmly onto Cassie's shoulders to prevent her from falling over and said. “It looks good on you dudette. You don’t have to feel ashamed of dressing up like this. If this is what you want, go for it and Jordan and I will be there for you.” He turned his head towards Jordan. “Isn’t that right bro?”
“Huh? Oh! Uhh… Yeah! No shame in just being you, dog!” Jordan held up an awkward thumbs up.
Cassie took a deep breath. “Thanks guys. I thought you’d think I was weird.”
“Don’t sweat it Cass!” Smith patted Cassie on the shoulder and turned to trail off. “Don’t want to block the aisle so we’ll catch you later! Maybe we can all three grab a meal and see a movie before classes start up again?”
“Sure!” Cassie waved at the two young men who waved bye back at her before returning back to her grocery shopping with a relieved pep in her step.
